A Question From A Client

Tracy, I admire your ability to keep your fitness a priority. I have let it go somewhat over the past year. Used to do marathons, swim lots, run lots and do hot yoga... I have a block to getting started again. What can you say to someone like me? I will do that if I could just get started. It is like I am afraid. Does this make any sense?

I was just thinking about this very topic! I think the biggest thing is choosing a fitness regime that is sustainable for you, so it probably has to be somewhat enjoyable ;) I also think setting goals (like for me last year, it was to see how lean I could be, and what my body could look like in a competition phase). You need something to motivate you, to push you to continue, even when you don't feel like it. It helped me so much, knowing that I was competing on a team, and that others were depending on me, to NOT cheat on my diet or my workouts.

I find the gym a social place for me. Therefore, I have put myself out there and made friends with almost everyone who goes at 9am!! I introduce myself, I know their names, their stories...it keeps me connected and accountable. They comment on the changes they see and when I don't show up...."Where were you Trace"??

Ask yourself what are you afraid of? I think its probably of failure, of quitting or giving up. Don't look at the whole picture in that regard, just make a commitment for today...that's all you have anyway. Then each day, make a new commitment to your health and well being. Do it for your kids (they want you around a long time, remind yourself that a healthy mom will be around longer than an unhealthy one), for your husband (have a smokin' body, be your sexy self!), but mostly do it for yourself! Being lean and hard and healthy feels 100x better than being soft and lethargic! I want people's jaws to DROP when I tell them that I'm 40!! Don't you?!
