For My 40th!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this statement uttered in the past few months, and it’s possibly because I have a lot of friends turning 40 this year (not that I’m anywhere near that age…!). So often people have a deadline for when they want their bodies to look smokin’! “For my fortieth, for my wedding, for my graduation, for the summer”. However, what happens is that we don’t allow adequate time to get our bodies into our ideal shape, and that’s when we get depressed and frustrated. I’m not saying that it’s not important to set reachable goals, but our journey towards health should be a lifetime commitment, not just a 3 month one.
Look to set a fitness regimen that is sustainable for you. It may not look like anyone else’s, but it will be a program that you can stick with. Starting and stopping can not only lead to fatigue and injury, but it can also begin to sow seeds of self doubt and failure. Sometimes, those are the hardest obstacles to overcome. Just put one foot in front of the other, and start. Do one day at a time, and try to not be overwhelmed by a deadline. You can only do what you can do…but start today, so that by next year this time, you will have that smokin’ body you desire!
If you are a regular gym goer, try changing up your program to keep you motivated, and to reach the goals you set for yourself. The internet is full of wonderful programs and ideas. If you need something more hands on, why not try a few sessions with a personal trainer.
Exercise hard! Most of us are only here for around an hour, a few times a week. Make your time count, get your heart rate up there, and have fun!
