Learn About InsoFit's Fitness Training
Getting in shape with physical fitness activityGetting in shape is a common goal, but what exactly does it mean and how do you do it? Getting in shape is an individual experience, depending on your age, preferences, lifestyle and other factors. A mom with four kids may have very different goals from a mountain climber, for example. But, at its heart, getting in shape simply means working your body more than you are right now. Any time you do more than what you're used to, your body grows stronger, getting you in better shape than you were before.

If your goal is to get in shape, you'll need a few basics: Cardio to burn calories and help your heart and lungs work more efficiently, Strength training to build lean muscle tissue while strengthening your bones, muscles and joints, flexibility exercises to improve your range of motion, and rest so your body can recover and grow stronger.

Most adults need at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at least five days per week. Examples include walking briskly, mowing the lawn, dancing, swimming for recreation or bicycling. Stretching and weight training can also strengthen your body and improve your fitness level.

Physical and Mental Well-being

Your Fitness SuccessIt is common knowledge that regular exercise supports physical and mental well-being. Despite this and recommendations from health care providers, the majority of patients with chronic illnesses remain inactive. In a new study, University of Missouri researchers found that adults with chronic illness who received interventions focused on behavior-changing strategies significantly increased their physical activity levels.

In contrast, interventions based on cognitive approaches, which attempt to change knowledge, beliefs and attitudes, and are most commonly used by health care providers, did not improve physical activity.
